In the summer of 2004, on a car journey in Eastern Europe, Pavla Fleisher
met and fell in love with Eugene Hutz, lead singer of Gypsy Punk band Gogol
Bordello. Captivated by his energy and his musical verve, and desperate to
get to know him better, she decided to make a film about him. The Pied
Piper of Hutzovina follows Eugene and Pavla on their subsequent road trip
through Eugene's home country, Ukraine. It is the story of two people
travelling together on two very different courses. Her aim is to rediscover
a forgotten romance; his is to rediscover his roots. She hopes to find love
on the road; he hopes to find musical inspiration from the gypsy culture he
is determined to preserve. This is an intimate portrait of a filmmaker with
a passion for her subject, and a punk musician with a longing to revisit
his past. Theirs is a journey which tests their relationship and challenges
their perceptions of the music they both love.

More stories from Yaroslav [Jan. 22nd, 2006|04:22 pm]
The v of love
My neighbour keeps on telling me stories about hippie life in Soviet Union. The situation in USSR was unique - not working was forbidden by law and was a criminal offence so all the Soviet rastas and hippies were working as a street cleaners or night guards which allowed them to be employed and do nothing, having long hair was not forbidden but was suspicious and society did not accept it so there was always risk of being beaten up just for the length of the hair, possession of rock music was unlawful and anyone could be arrested for having Pink Floyd tapes, many writers were forbidden so books were distributed by manual coping and handing copies to friends. These restrictions just made development of underground stronger. It was kind of network, secret society or sect. For example, nearly everyone had a notepad where "vpiski" were kept. "Vpiski" means addresses/telephones of other hippies in different cities. It was normal to come to unknown people with long hair on the street and just say hello and ask to exchange "vpiski". "Vpiski" were needed for hitch-hiking. Hitch hiking was very popular and many travelled all around USSR and visited exotic places like Asian republics on south or Siberia so when some hippie founded himself in some unknown city he could call to these addresses and ask for bed or help. And it was working. Yaroslav told me that he allowed hippies from other parts of Russia to stay in his flat and he covered nearly whole European part of Russia during his journeys. Now he is squatting in London.

Recovering [Jan. 21st, 2006|05:35 pm]
The v of love
I started recovering from flu(no more fever!) and stopped freaked out about some things in my squat. In the meantime there is one thing which I hardly can accept. It is a smell of men's socks from my neghbour's room. It is so intensive that I think it's a bit foggy in his room. But generally the place is nice. One guy is an 35 year old Soviet hippie with encyclopedic knowledge of India and 10 year experience of practising yoga. Last night I was given 3 hour long lecture about India, it's religions, social structure, castes, traditions. The guy had never been there but read every single piece about India he could access in Soviet time from some travel guides and history books to all sorts of Indian sacred texts. It's so rare and nice to see someone obsessed with something and actually it doesn't matter what it is. That was interesting but at 4am I had to give up because I started falling asleep sitting in the chair.
So now I kind of like my new house.

new place [Jan. 19th, 2006|10:13 pm]

I moved to the squat on south of London. The place is bloody depressive: roofs of the houses touching clouds, mud is everywhere, no sun. I've had a fever for three days.
Now I need to stop moaning and get myself organised.
Am I the only web developer living on a squat and doing MSc at uni? Life is less ordinary.

Now I'm member of 20 poets' communities including the ones dedicated to bad poems. Reading all the creative stuff very often I have to check is it one of those crappy communities' posts or it meant to be good. I should improve my English really :)

Office spaces [Jan. 11th, 2006|05:02 pm]
The v of love
Part 1 (5 p.m.)
Office spaces are
Full of mystery
And magic
When everybody leaves
And lights are off
The desk's beginning to vibrate
and pensil crowls to the edge
of table.
It gives me shivers
When I think about all
These dark and empty caves
of multimillion megapolis

Part 2(after dark)
I put a spell upon the keyboard
and lubricate the chair
with my blood
only to protect myself.
I stayed at night
at the office
to watch the moving charm
of crack addicted floppy disks
